Frequently Asked Questions.
Everything you want to know about writing perfect prescriptions

What???s the benefit of using OncoPrescribe?

Let???s start with prescriptions that are: Faster, More Accurate, Neater, and always Evidence Based. Did we mention you get all this for FREE?

I???m not very computer literate, how easy is it to use OncoPrescribe?

If you can use a web browser, you can use OncoPrescibe. We???ll bet you can write a complete prescription, all the way through the first time you use it ??? and do it without ANY training.

Can I really write a perfect chemotherapy order with this system, including all the supportive care and discharge instructions?

We???ll stack the orders you write with this system up against any other method ??? both handwritten and electronic. If you can find a better system, use it.

How is OncoPrescribe different from other order-writing tools available to Oncology practices?

We think most of the other chemotherapy electronic order tools are too complicated ??? and try to do too much (such as tying EMR together in the same software) ??? so they just are not easy enough to use. We went to great details to make OncoPrescribe simple, but thorough.

How can you offer this product for free?

We request monetary support from unrestricted educational grants from Pharmaceutical companies, government grants and other sources so that individual physicians (and their practices) can use OncoPrescribe free. The only time a practice will pay a fee is if they need help integrating OncoPrescribe into their back office, or EMR systems.

What do I need to do to run OncoPrescribe

All you need is a computer with a web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and a high speed internet connection. There is no software to install, no training required. Just set up a FREE account and start writing perfect prescriptions.

How do I become a free, registered subscriber of OncoPrescribe?

How do I choose my User Name, Physician ID and Password

??? Your login must be a valid email address
??? Physician ID is optional, but if you have one you should enter it
??? Your Password should be at least 6 characters and include at least one letter and one number

I forgot my User ID; what do I do?

Your user ID is your email address.

I forgot my password; what do I do?

Just click on the ???Recover It??? link from the Login page and you???ll be emailed a new password.

I am a Nurse Practitioner or Physician???s Assistant, can I use OncoPrescribe?

Any licensed health care professional practicing oncology will receive a unique login; however you may use a doctor???s login with his permission in order to fill out some screens (such as Patient Data), before the doctor enters in specific information about the prescription.

How long should it take me to write an order using OncoPrescribe?

The average order from beginning (entering patient data) to end (printing the order) takes about 6 minutes once an oncologist has used OncoPrescribe a few times.

Can I override the default selections in OncoPrescribe?

We like to say that OncoPrescribe is precise and flexible at the same time. You???ll almost always be given a ???default??? selection, but you can always modify that as well.

Our EMR/Back Office system has its own Chemotherapy order system but we don???t like it; can we use OncoPrescribe instead?

You bet. OncoPrescribe is a completely stand-alone web application. All you need is a web browser and a high speed internet connection to use it. We already have Oncologists who dislike their internal systems enough that they use OncoPrescribe instead.

How are the references compiled within OncoPrescribe?

Our team is constantly scouring medical journals, as well as attending conferences and meetings to search out new regimens and references. Sometimes we???ll even have information before it is printed in the major publications.

What???s contained in each reference?

Each reference contains the author(s) and study name, the publication as well as a synopsis and clinical relevance section. There are also footnotes for other studies that are referred to. As this tool continues to evolve, you may, for some prescriptions, be able to access abstracts or articles relevant to a particular reference.

How often are the references updated?

New references are added as soon as they appear in Medical Journals, or are presented at Conferences.

Can I use the references section even if I???m not writing a specific chemotherapy order?

Yes. When you log in to OncoPrescribe, you are taken to the ???What do you want to do today???? page. One of the options is to ???Research New Regimens???; if you select this you can learn about regimens and references without entering patient information.

Is OncoPrescribe HIPAA Compliant?

Since OncoPrescribe never stores ANY patient or prescription data, it does not need to be formally HIPAA certified, but it is compliant with guidelines. You can use OncePrescribe with confidence.

What other Security Measures are in Place?

OncoPrescribe is hosted at a Tier IV data center ??? the type of facility that manages financial transactions for major financial institutions. All internet traffic is SSL secured.

Can I keep an electronic copy of a patient???s prior chemotherapy order within OncoPrescribe?

No. OncoPrescribe does not store any patient or prescription data. If you wish to maintain electronic records of your OncoPrescribe orders, they must be maintained by the practice???s EMR/back office system and/or the Patients individual Electronic Health Records system ??? such as Microsoft Health Vault??? or Google Health.

Is there a shortcut within OncoPrescribe to replicate a chemotherapy order for the next cycle of an existing prescription?

No. Since OncoPrescribe does not store patient or prescription data, you can simply import historical data from your EMR system if you are planning to prescribe a new cycle of a previously administered prescription.

Can I use OncoPrescribe along with our existing EMR application?

Yes. The two systems will work side-by-side and then data will be exported to (or imported from) your EMR/back office system with a click of a button.

How do I export my orders from OncoPrescribe into our practice???s EMR or Back Office system?

Exporting OncoPrescribe data is simple to set up using our web services. Please contact OncoPrescribe for more details.

What if we plan to add a new EMR solution in the future, how will that affect OncoPrescribe?

Since OncoPrescribe is a stand alone system, you can add, delete or change your EMR and back office systems without changing the way you use OncoPrescribe.

Can I use OncoPrescribe to earn CME Credits?

Yes! When you log in to OncoPrescribe, you are taken to the "What do you want to do today?" page. One of the options is "CME"; if you select this, you will be directed to the CME module.
